Jagas was entrusted with the manufacturing of the precast seating and stair elements for the University of Auckland's new Recreation and Wellness Centre. Our role was to deliver high-quality, durable modular seating and stair components that would integrate seamlessly into the innovative design of the facility.
Scope of Work
Jagas manufactured the precast modular seating and stairs for the outdoor area of the Centre. The seating was designed to be both functional and aesthetically striking, while the stairs provide access to the elevated seating area. The modular seating elements were also designed to carry a special cultural significance.
Manufacturing Process
Jagas’ team worked closely with the project designers to bring the vision to life, ensuring that each precast element met the highest standards of quality and precision.
Modular Precast Seating: Our team manufactured individual modular concrete seating units that could be arranged to suit the space’s requirements. Each piece was crafted with the utmost attention to detail, ensuring durability and comfort for the end-users.
Cultural Carving: One of the key features of the seating is the carving into the concrete, which holds cultural importance. Jagas employed advanced techniques to ensure the intricate lettering was carved with precision and respect for its cultural context.
Precast Stairs: The precast stairs, also manufactured by Jagas, provide a safe and efficient way for users to access the seating area. Each stair element was designed for ease of transport and installation while maintaining high durability to withstand regular foot traffic.
Challenges and Solutions
The most significant challenge was ensuring the exact precision of the carved lettering in the seating modules. Jagas utilized advanced moulding techniques to accurately replicate the design specifications, ensuring that the cultural element was faithfully represented. Additionally, our manufacturing team took great care in ensuring that all precast elements were lightweight yet robust enough for their intended use.
Outcome
Jagas’ contribution to the UOA Recreation and Wellness Centre has played a key role in enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of the outdoor space. The modular seating and stairs, with their cultural carvings, have become integral elements of the design, offering both comfort and a visual tribute to the Māori heritage of the region.
Conclusion
This project showcases Jagas’ expertise in manufacturing high-quality precast concrete elements that blend functionality, design, and cultural significance. We are proud to have been a part of such a landmark project, delivering durable, high-performance solutions for the University of Auckland’s Recreation and Wellness Centre.
